Can CBD Help Reduce Nausea?

Well, yes. Cannabidiol (CBD), is one of the most studied chemical compounds in cannabis. And it's this compound which is responsible for many people's favorite aspect of using medical marijuana—the lack of psychoactivity associated with THC.

Because of this, CBD has become a popular focus of medical marijuana research, with a great deal of studies published on its effects. So far the results have been very promising for those who suffer from nausea and other stomach-related ailments.

In fact, CBD was first discovered as an antiemetic (anti-nausea) substance in the mid 60's by a young Israeli chemist named Raphael Mechoulam. And in the following years, there have been quite a few studies confirming that CBD is indeed an effective way to treat nausea and other stomach problems.

Findings For CBD Reducing Nausea

CBD reduced vomiting and nausea-like behavior in rats (study)

Cannabidiol was shown to be "a potent anti-emetic in rat trials that works by suppressing vomiting" (study)

The same study mentioned how "CBD and THC exhibited anti-nausea and anti-emetic effects when administered to rats".

Even after the subjects had been conditioned to experience nausea, CBD was able to prevent the onset of vomiting. (study)

CBD is an effective treatment for "the prevention of nausea and vomiting in [chemotherapy] patients at a low dose". (study)

In this study, it was also noted that "a significant percentage of the patients reported maintenance of appetite and weight gain" while using medical cannabis.

Two recent studies published by Aarhus University (Denmark) showed that CBD is able to reduce the anticipatory nausea caused by THC.

CBD has also been studied for its effects on motion sickness, post-operative nausea and vomiting, morning sickness, etc.

CBD May Help With Nausea

As you can see, there's quite a bit of scientific studies showing how effective CBD may be at fighting nausea. And since it's not psychoactive, there are no mental effects to speak of.

The bottom line is that CBD can most likely be a safe and effective treatment for nausea . It has exhibited the ability to reduce vomiting in both adults and children, ease morning sickness , reduce anticipatory nausea caused by THC , treat post-operative nausea & vomiting , and more.

Wherever you get your CBD, make sure it's from a reputable source. And talk with your doctor to see if CBD is an appropriate treatment for you.
